Advertising and The People Of Color

Okay whats really good with the avertisment for "Arrid" deoderant, where they have an oversized Mexican bandito toting around guns. They make him out to be some sweating, dusty looking guy and he stops to sray som deoderant on his underarms and then the announcer says "If it works fo him it will work for you".
I mean really, how stereotypical is that? Are they trying to portray the fact that all Mexican guys have bad hygiene or the fact that he was a fat guy and on top of that Mexican?

How would the advertisers feel in they were in our shoes? How would they feel if thier businesses all of a sudden became pointless? What if one day the government decides that we as society are adults, we have a mind of our own and that we don't need persuasion to buy a product. Then all advertisers would be out of a job, don't you think?

I think that the fact that the Latinos were pissed off because the blacks were not the target anymore was understandable. I mean the act as d they have to use people to get their points across.

They need to find other ways to get it out their without offending others in the process, it's possible!

The World Is A Text

Personally, I hate the whole "Weasel Word" ordeal. I mean it pisses me off that they make false claims to us as consumers. They are basically seling us things under false pretenses. Don't you think? Seriously, when you purchase something you want your money worth, right?

Its like selling a shirt to a fat woman saying that it will "help" her look smaller, only whn she puts it on, she looks even bigger than she did before. The word "help" is so tricky. Advertisers use this often; this product will "help....". Will help do what, when and how?

Another thing is this word "virtually". We as people are so blind by these falsly beautified ads that we forget to read between the lines, we don't see the subliminal messages.

Okay, whats up with the word "new and improved". What make this product so new? Just because you give t a new scent doesn't make it new. That makes it improved, when you think new you think changed like pair of shoes. Take jordans for example when a new shoe comes out its a different style, not a new color.

These are all false!!!!!! Be careful the next time you decide to buy something! Wouldn't it be great if we could sue these companies for lying to us?
